How to Lime Wash Timber Floors

What is limewashing?

Limewashing (also known as liming or whitewashing) is a timber staining process that gives your flooring a lighter, translucent and milky appearance. Giving your space a brighter feel, it’s no wonder that limewashing has become a popular finish for our Northern Beaches clients.

Why Choose Lime Wash For Your Floors?

A lime-washed floor is a popular finish if you would like to achieve a rustic, stylish, coastal look, reminiscent of the ever-popular ‘Hamptons’ Style.

Limewashed floors will also disguise dust and grime better than darker wooden floorings.

The process we use to lime wash timber floors

Floor Sanding

To start, we sand the timber floorboards back to a level. Our team then tape the skirting boards and kitchen benches to ensure no seepage occurs.

Appling the Limewash

Our team will then begin applying the wood wash in your chosen colour (for which we provide samples prior to commencement). The wash is applied with a professional applicator, ensuring that the product is rubbed evenly into the floorboards, in the direction of the grain to ensure an even colour throughout. The floor is then left to dry for 24 hours to fully cure.

Applying the Clear Coat

Once the floor is fully dry, a clear coat is then applied over the top, to seal the colour and protect the floor, also ensuring that it is easily cleaned and maintained.
